I'm Caroline Rhodes, Physiotherapist and founder of The Body Group. I have been in the healthcare field for over 30 years, pursuing my passion for better health and increased vitality. In my 20s I sustained a serious injury to my back in a car crash so I understand what it is like to be in pain but I also know how fantastic it feels when balance is restored to the body.

I am constantly exploring new avenues of healing and at The Body Group we have a first-rate team of experts in a wide range of modalities to work hand in hand with you to help you develop a new relationship with your body.

What makes our team of practitioners the best you will find?

We look at the body as a whole and how organs and systems work together in harmony. We design a plan, which heals from the inside out to achieve optimal health and balance.

Joint sessions with Caroline and Gina in Chiva-Som @ Chiva-Som
Jan 16 – Jan 31 all-day

Caroline Rhodes is the founder of the Hong Kong holistic clinic, The Body Group.  She qualified as a physiotherapist in 1985 and has spent the past 30 years working as a health care practitioner in the US and Hong Kong.  In addition, she has received accreditation in many traditional and complementary therapies, including:

  • Craniosacral Therapy to address the central nervous system and thereby all systems in the body.
  • Lymphatic Drainage to boost the immune system, which is essential for the healing of any chronic illness.
  • Trigger Point and Myofascial Release to assist the connective tissue to release old patterns and to reduce or eliminate pain.

Caroline has a twin sister, Gina Day, who is a Certified Chiropractic Assistant and who is also certified as a Health Coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.  Prior to moving into the health field, Gina was an engineer in the aerospace industry for 21 years and she also obtained a BS in Business Management.  Both sisters share a passion for holistic health and believe that all pain, illness and chronic conditions stem from an imbalance in the body.  This could be in any one or a combination of the physical, biochemical or emotional aspects of each living organism.

Both Caroline and Gina are certified practitioners in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Matrix Reimprinting (MR), and Meta Health.  These modalities work quickly to find the root cause of illness, whether physical or mental, and bring about healing and balance.  They also work in a powerful way to release trauma and heal emotional wounds, including those caused by sexual assault, child abuse and accidents.  Clients have reported moving from fear, anxiety, depression and phobias to a state of confidence, optimism and wellbeing.

Caroline and Gina will be offering joint sessions for a limited period in January 2015.  Working simultaneously on a client, they can offer an extraordinary depth of intuitive healing, which they attribute to the fact that they are twins and often share the same insights.  In a typical session, Caroline will do body work on the client while Gina will work with EFT and MR.

Prior to treatment, an initial assessment will be carried out.  This Meta Health Analysis will address the physical, physiological and energetic bodies and will determine the specific modes of treatment that are appropriate.

The Digestive System; The Root to all Health @ The Body Group
Feb 9 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Digestive system

The functions of the digestive system include breaking down food matter, the absorption of nutrients and the elimination of waste products and toxins. Optimal health of the digestive tract is of the utmost importance. It truly is the root of all health and is an intricate and fascinating system that is only just beginning to be fully understood.

The health and strength of the digestive system is vital because it is our largest link to the environment around us and it is intrinsically linked to all the other body systems.

A less than optimal digestive function means you may have symptoms of impaired nutrient absorption, impaired energy production, hormonal imbalance and potentially leaky gut (leading to possible allergies and intolerances). In addition, you may suffer from dysbiosis (an imbalance of bacteria and microbes) and inflammation. Healing the digestive system is unique to each individual but by learning how the system works you can better understand and interpret your body’s signals.

Come and learn more about your digestive system and find out ways in which you can improve your digestive health as well as that of your family.

How to use a homeopathic ‘Tool Kit’ in the home @ The Body Group
Feb 28 @ 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

homeo class

A four-hour workshop designed to teach you the basics of homeopathy, the gentle and effective, natural medicine for all the family.

Would you like to be able to use natural remedies to treat everyone in your family? Many parents struggle to find effective natural solutions for minor injuries and infections or for preventing and treating viruses and other seasonal illnesses without resorting to conventional medication and antibiotics. Homeopathic medicine provides a safe and natural alternative for the whole family, from newborns to the elderly. For many of us, homeopathic medicine is a total mystery so this workshop is designed to teach you not only to understand what it is, but also how to use some basic natural remedies to fix and build the health of your whole family in a safe and easy way.

In this workshop you will learn how to use a homeopathic ‘tool kit’ for yourself and your entire family, covering first aid situations and common ailments that arise in family life, including minor accidents and injuries, sprains and strains, teething, colic, croup, colds, earache, sore throat, fever, cough, digestive upsets, food poisoning, hay fever, infections and inflammations.

The small, informal setting of this four-hour workshop allows participants to share experiences and learn valuable tips from each other about the maintenance of family health. You will leave the workshop with an enriched view of homeopathy and greater confidence in prescribing gentle but effective natural remedies at home, in tandem with the care that your medical practitioner provides.

The four-hour workshop, a remedy kit to take home containing 36 different remedies and a dedicated folder containing further information and plenty of space for your own notes and records.

Topics covered:

  • The origins and history of Homeopathy
  • What it is
  • How it works
  • How it compares to and complements conventional medicine
  • Discussion time
  • The ‘Tool Kit’ in detail – each remedy and what it treats
  • How to use the remedy charts and how to differentiate between remedies
  • How to select a remedy and potency
  • How to give the remedy and observe its action
  • Discussion time

The Tool Kit that will be provided, along with the knowledge you gain, will enable you to manage and improve the health and vitality of your whole family, in conjunction with your health practitioner. Charlotte has lived in Hong Kong for five and a half years and is the resident homeopath for The Body Group. Before coming to Hong Kong she had a busy practice in London.

As the mother of two young girls, Charlotte is very much aware of the stresses and anxieties that motherhood can bring and takes much joy from watching women flourish with good health and vitality through the use of homeopathy. Charlotte enjoys working with families to help them find ways to live with more energy and with less reliance on traditional western medicines.

Introduction to Kombucha by Louise Buckley @ The Body Group
Mar 14 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Mass-produced food has meant many changes to the natural growing and distribution of foods, and this has largely changed the make-up, quality and accessibility of nutrients. Pasteurisation of milk is an example of this, but while this process has proved useful in increasing the shelf life of milk, other dairy products and juices, etc., unfortunately it also destroys some of the nutrients.

Fermentation, on the other hand, is a naturally occurring phenomenon, the transformative power of which can produce alcohol, preserve our foods and make them more digestible, less toxic and more delicious. At present, very little is actually understood about the make-up of the starters and how they grow, transform and multiply. Some do it spontaneously and some are seemingly indestructible. But what is universally acknowledged is that bacteria has a positive impact on our digestive system, immune system, blood sugar balance, skin quality and hormone balance — and also plays a very important role in reducing inflammation.

Become a creator rather than a consumer, and learn to use a simple and effective method of fermentation to make kombucha!

Kombucha is a fermented tea.  It is described as a ‘delicious sour tonic beverage’ slightly sparking and a little like apple cider.  The drink is made with a SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast), also known as the Mother.  It is a bit like a disc which floats on the surface as it ferments.  Kombucha provides amazing support for the liver and the digestive and immune systems; it has been described as a ‘little bit magical’. Come and taste it, learn all about it, and take away a SCOBY for yourself.

Children’s Nutrition; From ‘Bump’ to Teenager @ The Body Group
Mar 14 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Confused with all the information on what to feed your kids? Learn very practical information with Louise Kane Buckley

Childrens Nutrition

Babies need more calories and protein per pound than any other age group. They will never go through such rapid growth and development again in their lives. The first year sees so many changes, and it is no surprise that nutrition should be a top consideration for their future health.

Beyond the first year, the nutrient needs for growth and development do not change. However, how and what you feed them will be a huge factor as they enter the world where they are free to make choices and have to deal with social and media pressures on what and how they eat. How can we as parents help them to make good lifestyle choices from the beginning?

This course is designed to help you learn how to teach your children to make choices to strengthen and heal their digestive and immune systems and to help minimise inflammation and maximise brain development. Most importantly, the course will help you provide them with the nutrients needed to meet their physical, emotional and mental needs so that their development can flourish.

Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) @ The Body Group
Apr 23 @ 9:30 am – Jun 11 @ 12:30 pm

Healthy Relationships = Less Stress + More Joy
Take Parent Effectiveness Training this April at the Body Group and build close, mutually respectful relationships with your children and beyond! One November parent said: “This was the most amazing course I have ever taken — skills learnt that will be used for a lifetime.”

What P.E.T. Can Do For Families
All parents want their children to exhibit emotional self-regulation, to speak assertively and to act out of consideration for others (rather than to avoid punishment or get a reward). P.E.T. gives parents a roadmap and lots of practice to help them reach these goals.

Parents will learn concrete ways to meet their children’s needs as well as their own and to solve problems in an enduring way that fosters closeness. Dr. Thomas Gordon, the founder of P.E.T., was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times; these communication skills truly improve all human relationships.

Here are some successes participants have shared:

  • Mother has been able to Active Listen her tween daughter who, over time, has felt safe enough to open up about being bullied at school. The process of listening helped the daughter to feel understood and to find her own solution and approach to the bully. While the mother was taking the course, her daughter told her twice that she was her BFF (Best Friend Forever)!
  • One couple has consistently used Preventive I-Messages with their three children to avoid problems on the weekend, making family time all the more enjoyable.
  • Participants have used Confrontive I-Messages not only with their children, but also with their spouses and helpers. “My husband liked that a lot better.” “It was amazing. My helper really understood how sad I was and didn’t get defensive at all.”

About the P.E.T. Course
24 hours. Eight sessions. Three hours each.

This allows parents to go home, practice and come back with their questions. Catherine tailors the material to meet the needs of the ten participants – your time is precious and Catherine wants the role-plays and exercises to be relevant.

This is a skills-building experience that can be followed up with optional monthly refresher meetings. Here’s what one mom has to say:

“My husband and I have attended several P.E.T. refreshers with Catherine after taking the full course last year, and we never fail to learn something new from her at each one. Catherine has unfailing energy and insight into communicating with children. Her empathy and language are inspiring and I always leave determined to improve my own skills following her example. The P.E.T. techniques continue to offer a priceless armature for building healthy and lasting relationships with our children and Catherine continues to be an awesomely skilled and inspiring teacher.”

Fee of 4200HKD includes materials and one refresher meeting (value 300HKD for three hour session).

Free Information Session Thursday, March 26 at the Body Group, 12-1pm
